Defending German champion Bayern Munich was right to show Dutch coach Louis van Gaal the door after its third consecutive defeat, ex-Bayern and Germany captain Oliver Kahn said on Wednesday.
In the wake of Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Hanover, van Gaal was told on Monday his Bayern contact will be terminated at the end of the season, a year before it was due to expire.
Home defeats to Dortmund, in the league, and the German Cup exit at the hands of Schalke had put van Gaal under pressure before the Hanover defeat.
Bayern is fifth in the Bundesliga, seven points from the second place which will give it an automatic Champions League place next season, and Kahn says his ex-club was right to end van Gaal's two-year reign prematurely.
"It was absolutely logical," Kahn told Munich newspaper TZ.
"I consider any other decision would have been unwise.
"It is now the duty of the team to take responsibility.
"I can't imagine a single Bayern player who wants to play in the Europa League next season.
"At the moment, it's of no interest to the players who the coach is."
